KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine -- Powered by the best round of the day from Abby Flanagan, the University of New England women's golf team took the scorecard tiebreaker to win the UNE Invitational at Cape Arundel Golf Club on Wednesday (Oct. 8).

To accommodate more institutions, the tournament scoring format was modified to count three scores towards the team totals, instead of the typical four. UNE and Southern Maine Community College tied at the top of the leaderboard with 257, in front of the University of Southern Maine (284) and Saint Joseph's College (345).

Flanagan's 6-over-par score came with a trio of back-nine birdies, and was good for a three-shot individual victory over Alexis McCormick of SMCC. It is the second time this season that Flanagan has finished in 1st place.

Amanda Forziati was the only other player in the field of 17 golfers with multiple birdies (2), and wound up with a share of third place at 84. Eadie Nadeau posted five pars en route to her lowest competition round of 97, which completed the squad number.

The Nor'easters will now get ready to challenge for the inaugural Conference of New England (CNE) Women's Golf Championship -- a 36-hole event that starts Saturday at Keney Park Golf Course in Windsor, Connecticut.
