WATERFORD, Conn. --
Sally Kelton and
Maya Brochu were near the front of the pack for the University of New England women's cross country team on Saturday (Oct. 18) during the Open Race at the Connecticut College Invitational, which ran at Harkness State Park. In one of the biggest fields of the season, the Nor'easters took 9th out of 33.
Ahead of the Blue Championship Race -- chalk full of nationally- and regional-ranked institutions -- a portion of the squad representing Williams College put the first four runners across the line and totaled 20 points to claim first place. Estella Laird was the leading Eph, clocking a 6K time of 22:02 that would've been inside the top 60 in the Championship competition.
UNE's team score of 331 included a 12th-place showing out of Kelton (22:46) and 18th by Brochu (22:59), from the field of 345.
Sylvie DiBartolomeo (74th; 23:54),
Gianna Rodriguez (110th; 24:32), and
Corinna Hobbs (192nd; 25:28) supplied the other pieces to the Nor'easter overall number.
UNE will be back in action on November 1 at Gordon College, racing for the 2025 Conference of New England (CNE) Championship.
