WATERFORD, Conn. -- The University of New England men's cross country squad placed 32nd out of 37 teams in the Open Race at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday morning (Oct. 18), as one of the largest events of the year was held at Harkness State Park.
Leading up to the nationally- and regionally-ranked Blue Championship Race, groups from Williams College, New York University, and Tufts University tied for first place in the White Open with scores of 65.
Emil Nelson of Williams had the top individual 8K time out of the 364 runners at 25:05, which would have been 60th in the Championship competition.
For the Nor'easters --Â who totaled 884 points as a team --
Troy Silvestri led the way with a time of 26:16 to end up 45th.
Thomas Hoff (253rd; 28:44),
Jackson Stone (274th; 29:12),
Edward Iannuzzi-Sucich (280th; 29:16), and
Griffin Kaplan (299th; 29:45) rounded out the score.
UNE now gets a couple of weeks to train for the 2025 Conference of New England (CNE) Championship, which will be at Gordon College on November 1.
