Hujus rips through KSC Sprint Pentathlon

KEENE, N.H. -- Mic Hujus dominated the pool for the University of New England women's swimming team at the Keene State College Sprint Pentathlon, as the 2025-26 season kicked off on Saturday (Oct. 11) at Spaulding Pool.

The non-scoring team competition featured a 50-yard version of all swimming disciplines, plus the 100-individual medley and two relays. Three other institutions participated in the meet with UNE and the host Owls: Norwich University, Gordon College, and Plymouth State University.

Hujus tore through the format with victories in four of the five solo events -- the 50-free (25.38), 50-fly (26.91), 50-back (29.45), and 100-IM (1:03.95). In addition to a personal-best in the 100-IM, she also had one in the 50-breast (35.94), taking fifth place. The cumulative time for Hujus was 3:01.63 was nearly four seconds faster than the next closest total, and almost 10 better than last year's best, which came from Maeve McDermott.

McDermott had the third-place cumulative (3:07.64) this time around, and logged three personal-bests in the process. She took third in the 50-breast (33.39), fourth in the 50-fly (29.08), 50-back (31.15), and 100-IM (1:06.65), and sixth in the 50-free (27.37).

Rookie Bella Shrewsbury, Eloise Ring, and Tess Zurawski placed sixth, seventh, and ninth, respectively, in the overall times. Shrewsbury's best finish was third in the 50-back (30.92), to go with eighth in the 50-free (27.44) and tenth in the 50-fly (30.33). Ring was eighth in the 100-IM (1:10.05), and Zurawski was ninth in the 50-back (32.03).

Meghan Cabral added a sixth-place showing in the 50-breast (36.35).

The Nor'easters also claimed the 200-free relay (1:48.86) behind the efforts of Ring, Shrewsbury, Ari Cioffi, and Hujus.

UNE opens the dual meet portion of its schedule on November 1 at home against Mount Holyoke College.
