WATERVILLE, Maine -- The University of New England women's rugby team came up short in a pair of abbreviated 7s matches versus Thomas College on Saturday (Oct. 11) at Alumni Field. The host Terriers edged UNE, 19-15, in the opener before taking a 31-12 triumph in the finale.
The first contest was a back-and-forth affair, with each team recording a try in the opening half to account for a 5-5 tie at the break. The Terriers came up with a try and conversion to open the final frame. UNE responded with a try to pull within two at 12-10. Thomas then found the try zone and converted to lead 19-10 before the Nor'easters completed the scoring with try in the final minute.
The Terriers opened up a 12-0 advantage heading into halftime of the second competition, but UNE countered with a try coming out of the break. Consecutive scores gave Thomas a 24-5 cushion to help put the contest away.
Caroline Rhodes accounted for 12 points (2 tries, 1 conversion) over the two contests to lead the Nor'easters. UNE also received tries from
