PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The University of New England women's swimming team racked up 13 of 14 event wins to cruise past Rhode Island College, 178-72, on Saturday (Jan. 18).
Adria Horton,
Mic Hujus,
Tess Zurawski, and
Maeve McDermott each accounted for two individual victories for the Nor'easters.
Horton swam away with the 50-free (26.79) and 50-fly (28.26), Hujus commanded the 50-back (29.72) and 100-free (56.97), Zurawski claimed the 1,000-free (12:29.02) and 100-back (1:07.37), and McDermott was the leader into the wall for the 100-fly (1:08.77) and 100-IM (1:07.07). Horton's time in the 50-fly was a team season-best by 0.11.
Four others factored in first-place results for UNE, included both relay triumphs. In solo efforts,
Eloise Ring captured the 500-free (5:58.57), and
Elli Donovan edged teammate
Annika Doeppers by 0.12 seconds in the 200-free (2:13.59).
Payton Walmsley narrowly split with RIC's Anna Vygoder in the 50-breast and 100-breast, with Walmsley clocking 32.24 in the 50 to win by 0.38, before Vygoder took the 100 (1:12.10) by a mere 0.06 seconds.
The 200-medley relay of
Liv Roux, Walmsley, Horton, and Hujus posted 1:57.63 for the victory, while Hujus, McDermott, Horton, and Walmsley coasted to a 1:46.50 in the 200-free relay win.
The Nor'easters are back in Biddeford next Saturday (12 p.m.) to entertain the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth.
