Trevor Flanagan carded just the fifth 18-hole round at even-par or better in University of New England men's golf program records on day two of the Bowdoin College Invitational, which wrapped up play on Sunday (Sep. 29) at Brunswick Golf Club. The Nor'easters posted a overall total of 646 to finish 18th out of 21 institutions.
Tufts University (587) took the team title after a strong 289 start on Saturday, winding up four ahead of Amherst College at 591 (299-292), Endicott College at 592 (301-291), and Husson University at 593 (292-301). The Jumbos also had the medalist in Nick McCabe, who went 70-71 around the par-72 track for a two-shot individual win.
Flanagan's weekend summed up with a 36-hole score of 148, which goes in the logs as the second-best total-to-par (+4) and the third-lowest total in UNE history. He dropped in an eagle on the par-4 12th hole and added three birdies in Sunday's 72 to move up the leaderboard and claim a share of 11th place in the field of 112 golfers.
As a group, the Nor'easters improved by 10 strokes in Round 2 for a 328-318 tournament.
Ben Donahue entered a two-day 159 (81-78) into the equation for UNE.
Sean Guerrette came in with 169 (84-85),
Tim Melley contributed 170 (87-83), and
Tyler Politano recorded 176 (87-89).
The Nor'easters will host the UNE Invitational on Friday at Cape Arundel Golf Club to kick off Homecoming Weekend.
