AUBURN, Maine -- Troy Silvestri clipped along at a 5:19 pace over eight-kilometers to place 13th out of 104 finishers, as the University of New England men's cross country team competed in the Maine State Championship Saturday (Sept. 21) at Roy's Disc Golf. 

Despite Bowdoin College taking the top three spots, host Bates came away with the team title, totaling a score of 37. Bowdoin was close behind in second at 43, while Colby College placed third. Will Goddard won the race with a time of 25:45.

Silvestri completed the course in 26:26. Jackson Stone (63rd - 29:39), Thomas Hoff (64th - 29:40, Tommy Norgang (68th - 30:33) and Griffin Kaplan (70th - 30:48) also scored for UNE, which placed sixth out of 10 teams.

The Nor'easters have a week off before competing in the Bates Invitational on Oct. 5 at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester.
