BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Colby College netted a pair of goals after halftime to come away with a 2-0 decision against the University of New England in field hockey action Tuesday night (Sep. 10) at Blue Bolt Field.
The Mules (2-0) broke through on a penalty corner in the 38th minute, inserted by Catherine McNulty and sent in from the top of the circle by Molly Mitchell. Still holding on to the one-goal edge with less than five minutes to go, Casey Winslow redirected a hit by Pernilla Shaw off the left post and in for some insurance.
Harri Baker needed to make one 4th-quarter save to complete the clean sheet for Colby, in relief of starter Opal O'Rourke, who made four stops during the initial 30 minutes.
Dawn DeWeese-Moss logged eight saves for the Nor'easters (2-2). UNE was out-shot, 17-6, in total attempts, and the Mules finished atop a 9-6 margin in corners.
The Nor'easters will be on the road for the first time on Saturday afternoon, visiting Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
