Top-seeded Hawks defeat UNE in CCC semis

Statistics

BRISTOL, R.I. -- Emma Terino produced seven goals and five assists to power a balanced attack for No.1 Roger Williams University during a 23-7 win over No.4 University of New England in the semifinals of the 2024 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Lacrosse Championship at Bayside Field on Wednesday afternoon (May 1).

The three-time reigning champion Hawks (10-7) move into the league final for the 10th straight season and will host the winner from second seed Endicott College and third-seeded Western New England University on Saturday.

The Nor'easters conclude the year with an overall record of 7-10, after making it back to the semifinals for the first time since 2019.

UNE had things level at 2-all just over five minutes into the contest once Barrie Guertin and Sydney Balotin answered RWU scores by Terino and Kimmy Creegan, however, the hosts struck five times in a span of four minutes to take control. Guertin's second tally made it 7-3 at the end of the 1st, but then Roger Williams netted all eight goals in the 2nd period.

Creegan supported Terino's 12 points with five goals and two assists of her own, to go with seven ground balls and five draw controls. Mia Pantano and Julia Kelley went for four and three goals, respectively, while Karli Chapin had three goals along with seven draws. Grace Rocheleau caused four turnovers on the back end to help starting goalie Zoey Cormican, who made three stops in 45 minutes of work.

Balotin topped the Nor'easters with three goals, bringing the sophomore to an even 100 career points -- the 22nd player in program history to reach the milestone. Balotin also had a team-high four draw controls.

After Guertin's two markers, Meagan Donovan, who dished out a couple of assists, and Nicole DePodesta accounted for the other UNE goals. Micaela Jacobs registered two caused turnovers and two draws, while Jenna Trafford totaled four saves and four ground balls.
