PORTSMOUTH, R.I. -- Featuring 1st-place individual results from
Sienna Matregrano in the discus and
Sarah LaVita in the javelin, the University of New England took 3rd out of seven institutions at the 2024 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Track & Field Championship, which finished up competition on Saturday (Apr. 27) at Portsmouth High School.
In the fourth year of the program, the Nor'easters now have back-to-back 3rd-place showings. UNE's 112 points settled behind Endicott College (152) and Suffolk University (130) and ahead of Gordon College (99) and host Roger Williams University (91).
The Nor'easters generated 27 scoring performances from individuals or relays, and 10 of those were good for a spot on the podium. The program now has 35 medals -- eight gold, 14 silver, and 13 bronze.
Student-athletes who finish first, second, or third in an event also receive the respective all-conference designation for the CCC season.
In the discus, Matregrano measured 35.85 meters to claim the top position, up from taking third in 2023. The mark booked a place in the New England Championships and was good for the second-best effort in UNE history (also recorded the third best).
For LaVita, after a runner-up effort in 2023, the winning javelin throw traveled 35.68 meters. It reaffirmed her entry into the New England Championships in the event.
