BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England women's rugby team advanced the championship match of the Nor'easter 7s before dropping a 29-5 decision to the Northeastern University club team Sunday (April 14) at Blue Storm Stadium.
The champion Huskies posted a 5-0 record on the day with an unblemished 4-0 mark in pool play. Brielle Quigley dominated the title game, racking up four tries to give her a team-high total of 25 points. Caitlin Boland finished with 20 points (2 tries, 5 conversions), including nine in the final fixture.
UNE posted a 3-1 record in pool play to advance to the final. The Nor'easters topped Bowdoin College (22-14), Norwich A (24-12) and Norwich B (27-5), with their only setback coming to Northeastern (25-5).
Celeste Valerio led all UNE players with 25Â points on five tries.
Liz Cogan and
Sara Kraus each had 19 points with three tries and two conversions.
Mackayla O'Meara (10 points),
Rae Pesek (5Â points) and
Leah Underwood (5 points) also found the scoring column.
The Nor'easters will conclude their spring season next Sunday (April 21) at the Polar Bear 7s hosted by Bowdoin College.
