Gulls remain undefeated in CCC with win over UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Leading 4-1 after one quarter of play, the Endicott College women's lacrosse team outscored the University of New England 14-2 the rest of the way to take an 18-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference victory Wednesday evening (April 10) in the rain at Blue Bolt Field.

Winners of five consecutive contests, the Gulls kept pace with Roger Williams University atop the conference standings, while upping their record to 8-5 (4-0 CCC). UNE dropped to 5-7 overall, 3-2 in CCC games.

Emerson Clark racked up seven points with five goals and two assists to pace the winners. Mia Smith contributed three goals and added two assists, while Kiana Napolitano led all players with eight points (2 goals, 6 assists). Clare Wendell, Bailey Sheehan and Jaira Paine each scored twice for Endicott, which led from start-to-finish. 

Sydney Balotin, Emily Jacobs and Kimmy Staniar were the goal-scorers for the Nor'easters.

Lily Troupe came up with four ground balls to lead the Gulls in that category. Goalkeeper Lydia Akins denied nine of the 12 shots that came her way to earn the victory between the pipes.

UNE's Balotin and Morgan White controlled six draws apiece to lead all players. Elizabeth Guertin played a strong all-around game, accounting for four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Jenna Trafford was credited with eight saves.

The Nor'easters return to play Saturday (April 13) when they take on the University of Hartford on Senior Day at Blue Bolt Field (12 p.m.).
