BIDDEFORD, Maine --
Annika Doeppers and
Mic Hujus led a balanced effort by the University of New England women's swimming team in a 192-50 triumph over Western New England University at the Campus Center Pool on Saturday (Feb. 3).
Doeppers claimed first-place in the 200-freestyle (2:12.30) and 200-breaststroke (2:47.05), while Hujus won the 50-freestyle (25.11) and 100-freestyle (55.47). The pair connected with
Liv Roux and
Adria Horton to secure a victory in the 200-freestyle relay (1:50.93), which included a 24.99 second leg by Hujus.
Hujus also teamed up with Roux,
Meghan Cabral, and
Elli Donovan for the top spot in the 200-medley relay (2:00.48).
Six other individuals picked up leading results for the Nor'easters.
Jess Russell touched the wall first in the closest race of the day, the 100-IM (1:11.22), finishing just ahead of teammate
Tess Zurawski (+0.69) and Doeppers (+0.90). Zurawski got one of her own in the 1,000-freestyle (12:38.36).
Katie Durrua in the 50-butterfly (30.92), Cabral in the 50-breaststroke (35.52), and Roux in the 500-freestyle (6:15.66) added to the UNE dominance. Horton also chalked up a narrow win in the 100-butterfly (1:08.19), 0.90 in front of Western New England's Olivia Emanuele.
The Golden Bears received a pair of wins out of Caitlin Guntly, who clipped Donovan by just over one second in both the 50-backstroke and 100-backstroke.
The Nor'easters are now off for nearly two weeks before heading to the Little East Conference (LEC) Championships.
