UNE takes shootout after Nichols scores late

Statistics

HARRISVILLE, R.I. -- Tristan Kimmen scored with 52 seconds remaining in regulation to rally Nichols College to a 3-3 tie with the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference men's ice hockey action Saturday afternoon (Feb. 10) at Levy Rink.

After a scoreless five-minute overtime session, the Nor'easters took a 2-0 shootout decision to earn two points in the conference standings.

A power-play goal by Nathan Chickering at 6:15 of the third period had given UNE a 3-2 advantage before Kimmen rescued the Bison in the final minute.

Nichols grabbed a 1-0 lead on the power play when Zack Kent notched a marker with Nichols on the power play.

Jayden Price knotted the score for UNE at 8:58 of the first on a goal assisted by Jacob Pellerin and David Wilcox. The Bison regained the lead in the closing seconds of the first when Zach Vandale found the cage.

The Nor'easters evened things up once again - this time midway through the middle period - when Ryan Kuzmich converted on the power play. That tally was set up by Price and Chip Hamlett.

Kuzmich would find Hamlett 6:15 into the third period to give UNE its first advantage of the contest, setting the stage for Kimmen's late goal to force overtime.

Billy Girard IV finished with 23 saves for the Nor'easters, who led 47-26 in shots on goal. Tyler Bost stopped 44 shots for Nichols.

UNE will conclude its regular season Friday (Feb. 16) at home versus Salve Regina University.
