Horton, Walmsley knock off UNE records at Maine Invite

Results

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Adria Horton and Payton Walmsley clocked new program records as the University of New England women's swimming team competed at the Maine Invitational meet, which concluded day two on Saturday (Dec. 7) at Colby College's Harold Alfond Aquatics Center.

Horton's 500-free time of 5:20.97 clipped the previous UNE mark that was set by Kayla Burgess in 2018 (5:21.35).

Walmsley's school standard came in the 50-breast, as she went for 31.93 in the timed final. But then, swimming the 100-breast, her initial 50-yard split of 31.84 lowered it even more. Lindsey Thomsen began the day as the record holder from 2014 (32.35). Walmsley's final number of 1:10.60 in the 100-breast established a UNE season low, as well.

Season-bests for the Nor'easters were also registered by Horton in the 50-free (26.17), 100-free (56.92), 1,650-free (18:35.86), 50-back (29.27), 100-back (1:03.10), and 100-fly (1:01.92).

Maeve McDermott logged UNE's top times this year in the 100-IM (1:05.95) and 200-IM (2:23.26), while Tess Zurawski posted the squad's leading mark of 2024-25 in the 200-back (2:21.16).

Additionally, Horton, Walmsley, and McDermott factored three team-bests on the relay front. Led off by Ari Cioffi, the 200-free relay group notched 1:45.89, and started by Annika Doeppers, the 400-free came in with a time of 3:57.94. Eloise Ring joined the trio to close out the 200-medley swim with a 1:57.07.

UNE is back in the Campus Center Pool on January 11 (12 p.m.) to take on Maine Maritime Academy.
