BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Bowdoin College scored once in the 2nd period and another in the 3rd to settle on a 2-0 result versus the University of New England in women's ice hockey action Saturday afternoon (Dec. 7) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Polar Bears, who were receiving votes just outside of the latest USCHO Division III Top 15 Poll, improve to 7-0 -- undefeated through seven games for the first time since 2016-17 (6-0-1).

Kirsten DiCicco denied the first 16 attempts on target by Bowdoin, until the 7:28 mark the middle frame, when Jane McCarter collected the puck deep in the defensive end, skated up the left wall, and curled behind the UNE goal to stuff it in at the right post.

The visitors had a prime opportunity to extend the advantage later in the 2nd while shorthanded, but Gia Massari's breakaway bid was negated by DiCicco [Watch].

It was still 1-0 as things turned for home in the latter portion of the 3rd, however Anyi Sun doubled the margin with 6:21 remaining with a transition shot from the left circle -- off a feed by Emma Merrill.

Abby Matusovich made 18 stops for the Bowdoin shutout, while DiCicco ended with 40 saves. DiCicco had a total of 81 saves between a pair of hard-fought games against NESCAC opponents this week.

Hannah Humes and Mackenzie O'Leary supported the Nor'easter defensive effort with almost half (5 and 3, respectively) of the team's 17 blocked shots.

UNE (4-7) will back on the ice in four weeks with a visit to the University of Southern Maine.
