KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine -- Topped by a 75 from Trevor Flanagan, the University of New England totaled 311 to claim the UNE Men's Golf Invitational on Friday (Oct. 4) at Cape Arundel Golf Club. It marked the second time in 23 installments of the event that the Nor'easters took home 1st place.

UNE bested Saint Joseph's College (323) and the University of Maine-Farmington (336) for the title, which comes almost one year (plus three days) since the program's last victory.

Individually, Drew Mathieu of SJC fired the low round of the day with a 5-over-par 74 to clip Flanagan by one shot. Mathieu was the only player in the field of 15 to play either the front nine or back nine holes at even par, carding 35 on the opening side. Flanagan was 35 on the way in -- the lowest on the back.

The second-lowest back nine number (36) was posted by Sean Guerrette, who placed third with a season-best 77. Tim Melley shared fifth position with a season-low 79 and the third-best back nine on the day (38). Tyler Politano and Ben Donahue were seventh and eighth, respectively, with 80 and 81.

The Nor'easters get a little break before the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship at The Captains Course in Massachusetts on October 19-20, and then conclude the fall schedule on October 29-30 in the 2024 Conference of New England (CNE) Men's Golf Championship at Tedesco Country Club.
