MARBLEHEAD, Mass. -- The University of New England placed 9th with a score of 674 at the 2024 Conference of New England (CNE) Men's Golf Championship, which completed day two of the 36-hole competition on Wednesday (Oct. 30) at Tedesco Country Club.
The battle for the league's automatic berth came down to the final holes, with reigning champion Roger Williams University coming out just one stroke ahead of Endicott College for the title. The Hawks (598) trailed overnight leader Gordon College by six -- and were five behind the Gulls --Â following Tuesday's action, but led by the round of the championship from Ryan Dacey, RWU was able to rally for the repeat with a final round 294. Endicott (599: 299-300), the Fighting Scots (614: 298-316), and the University of Hartford (617: 308-309) rounded out the top four squads on the leaderboard.
UNE's score-by-round was 344 and 330.
Cole Scannell of Gordon topped the individual standings after Round 1 with a 72, however, Dacey's even-par 70 on Wednesday gave the Roger Williams sophomore a two-day total of 145 (75-70) and a three-shot win over the 148 (74-74) by Will Pierce of Endicott. Dacey had been one stroke off the pace in 2023.
Ben Donahue finished the 36 holes with a score of 160 (82-78) to guide the Nor'easters, and
Trevor Flanagan contributed 164 (82-82).
Sean Guerrette carded 167 (85-82), while
Tim Melley (185) supplied an 88 to the team number on Wednesday and
Tyler Politano (194) came in with a 95 towards UNE's total in the opening round.
