DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The University of New England women's swimming squad captured 13 of 14 events to breeze past the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth by a 194-29 spread on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 27) at the Tripp Athletic Center.
Annika Doeppers,
Elli Donovan, and
Mic Hujus each won twice individually to pace the Nor'easters. Doeppers claimed the 1,000-freestyle (12:06.52) and 500-freestyle (5:52.46), Donovan touched the wall first in the 50-freestyle (27.61) and the 100-freestyle (1:00.65), and Hujus topped the fields in the 100-backstroke (1:04.20) and 50-butterfly (28.30).
Hujus also factored in both team victories, closing out the 200-medley relay (2:04.71) and running the third leg of the 200-freestyle relay (1:52.10).
Liv Roux was part of each group, as well, while
Meghan Cabral and
Katie Durrua contributed to the medley and Donovan and
Ari Cioffi added to the freestyle.
Durrua won the 100-butterfly (1:10.14) by 0.48 seconds over UMD's Ella Gerardi, and Cabral clocked 1:18.24 to swim away with the 100-breaststroke.
April Falstad in the 50-breaststroke (35.30),
Adria Horton in the 100-IM (1:11.57), and
Tess Zurawski in the 200-backstroke (2:23.90) rounded out the winning performances for UNE. The 100-IM was the closest race of the day, as Horton edged Zurawski by only 0.15 seconds, with Cioffi just 0.43 behind.
Kylie Winer had the lone top result for the Corsairs in the 200-freestyle.
The Nor'easters head to Bates College for a night of relays on Friday, before wrapping up the home schedule next Saturday (12 p.m.) versus Western New England University.
