HARRISVILLE, R.I. -- The University of New England broke open a scoreless contest with three goals in the second period on its way to a 4-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference women's ice hockey road victory over Nichols College on Friday evening (Jan. 19) at Levy Rink.
Hannah Humes,
Jamie Ryan and
Lainie Lemieux each scored within a 10-minute window in the middle frame for the Nor'easters (6-8-3, 5-3-3 CCC), who were outshot 10-7 in the scoreless first period.
Piper Desorcie assisted on the opening goal, and Lemieux had a helper on Ryan's tally.
Keely Kasputis and
Eliana Kane were credited with assists when Lemieux lit the lamp.
Jamie DuPont would tack on another goal for the Nor'easters in the final period, as UNE out-shot Nichols 11-2 in those 20 minutes. Kane and Desorcie each added their second assist of the evening on DuPont's goal.
Winning goaltender
Kaleigh Laurendeau totaled 22 saves to notch her first career shutout. McKenzie Muir finished with 28 saves for the Bison (7-9-0, 1-9-0).Â
The same two teams will be back at it tomorrow night (Jan. 20) when UNE will host its annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Harold Alfond Forum.
