CASCO, Maine -- Grad student
Trevor Flanagan carded a one-over round of 73 to earn runner-up honors and lead the University of New England men's golf team to a share of 2nd place at the John Queenan Memorial Invitational hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday (Sep. 6) at Point Sebago Golf Course.
Gordon College topped the eight-team field with a score of 314, which bested the Nor'easters and Husson University by eight strokes (322). The host Monks and Thomas College tied for fourth place at 323.
Dylan Cunningham of Thomas edged Flanagan by one with an even-par 72 to headline the 44 individual competitors.
Flanagan had tied for the low score of the event in both 2021 and 2022 as a member of the Saint Joseph's program; last year, a matching of scorecards gave medalist status to
Jack Sicurella over Flanagan for UNE's ninth outright or shared win in program records. While 77 captured the solo title in 2022, with just four sub-80 rounds in the field, 13 players broke 80 on Wednesday around the 6,569-yard track.
Jake Mielcarz was next on the list with an 80 for the Nor'easters, and Sicurella added 81.
Ben Donahue completed the squad total with an 88.
UNE is slated to participate in the modified-format Southern Maine Cup on Saturday at Riverside Golf Club.Â
