BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Faith Jennings and Caroline Higgins each scored twice as No.14 Bowdoin College began its season with a 6-0 decision against the University of New England field hockey team at Ryan Field on Tuesday night (Sep. 5).
A penalty corner blast from Georgie Coetzer --Â assisted by both Jennings and Higgins -- opened the scoring in the 10th minute, and Maddie Mrva doubled the margin before the conslusion of the 1st period.
Jennings and Higgins both got on the board in the 2nd quarter to make it 4-0 halfway through.
Julia Arsenault made a couple saves in 55 minutes of work for the Polar Bears (1-0), who wound up with a 20-5 advantage in total shots and 14-6 edge in corners.
For the Nor'easters (0-2),
Dawn DeWeese-Moss totaled four stops over 45 minutes, and
Savanna Harvey turned away a pair while yielding one goal in the 4th stanza.
UNE will be back in Biddeford for its home opener on Thursday (4:30 p.m.) to take on Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
