Second-half run leads Seahawks past Nor’easters, 12-7, in CCC Quarterfinals

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – #4 Salve Regina University finished on an 8-1 run to overtake #5 University of New England 12-7 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Lacrosse Quarterfinals on Saturday.
 
The Seahawks advance to Wednesday's semifinal round against top-seeded Endicott [Interactive Bracket]. The Nor'easters finish the season with a record of 10-7.
 
Sydney Balotin opened the scoring for UNE with a free-position goal at the 12:41 mark of the first quarter. Cameron Baston answered for Salve Regina 30 seconds later as the teams traded goals in the opening period. Balotin found Abby McHallam for a score with 11:04 to play to put UNE back in front 2-1.
 
After a goal by Kelly Ventura, Morgan White put one in for the Nor'easters to five them the lead back with 6:29 to play. Holly Sullivan scored with help from Emma Periera to tie the game 3-3 for Salve Regina after a quarter.
 
Periera dished out another assist to Baston to give the Seahawks their first lead to start the second quarter. Balotin and McHallam each found the back of the net in the closing minutes of the half at UNE took the lead back 5-4 at the break.
 
UNE extended its lead to 6-4 early the third quarter as Barrie Guertin found Meagan Donovan for a goal. The Seahawks responded with three quick goals in a span of 1:15 to grab the lead back at 7-6 with 5:51 to go in the third and would not trail again. Kathryn Mullin buried a free-position goal in the final minute of the quarter.
 
Periera scored two of the Seahawks' first three goals of the found quarter to extend their lead to 11-6. Guertin ended the run with a free-position tally with 6:49 to play. Kelly Ventura scored the final goal of the game for Salve Regina.
 
Grace Haesche made six saves in the victory for the Seahawks. Maria Turriza had nine stops in the loss.
