NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The runners and jumpers from the University of New England women's track & field team placed 18th within a deep field at Connecticut College's two-day Silfen Invitational, which wrapped up Saturday (Apr. 15).
During Friday's elite distance portion,
Nina Parziale and
Kelsee Gladu registered qualifying times for the New England Championships in the 10,000m race. Parziale clocked 37:05.20 to wind up an impressive 3rd place in the event, knocking more than three minutes off the school record time. Gladu crossed the line 11th in 39:10.43 -- neck-and-neck with her twin sister, Kaylee, running for WPI.
UNE also received a score from
Megan Fecteau in the 3,000m steeplechase; her time of 12:49.13 was good for 9th position.
Emily Buchter and
Sydni Lehr both recorded school-record times in the 200m, with Buchter's 27.91 fractionally ahead of Lehr (27.98). Additionally, Buchter posted UNE's season-best in the 100m (13.35), and Lehr's 4.80 meters in the long jump was also the top Nor'easter mark in 2023.
The full squad heads for the Pine Tree Relays at Saint Joseph's College next Saturday.
