Nor’easters roll past Colonels, 18-6, to open CCC play

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's lacrosse team rolled to an 18-6 victory over Curry College in its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener at Blue Bolt Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Nor'easters have won three straight and improve to 7-2 on the season.
 
Nine different Nor'easters had a goal, led by Morgan White with a career-best seven goals to go with an assist, and six draw controls. She has scored 16 goals and has 19 points during the winning streak. Sydney Balotin had a complete game with three goals, three assists, six draw controls, five groundballs, and two caused turnovers. Barrie Guertin added two goals for UNE. Keagan Dunbar had four caused turnovers and five ground balls.
 
UNE used a five-goal span over the just 1:12 of action to turn a tie game into a 7-2 lead after a quarter. Balotin, White, and Abby McHallam each had a goal and assist during the run. Meagan Donovan and Kelsey Hartigan scored the other two Nor'easter goals.
 
Gyason Goolgasian assisted on two quick goals to Asher Printzen and Chloe Chevrier to start the second quarter for the Colonels to trim the deficit to 7-4 with 12:22 to go until the half. UNE outscored Curry 7-1 the rest of the quarter to pull ahead 14-5 at the break. Kimmy Staniar scored her lone goal of the game down the stretch while Balotin, White, and Guertin each had two in the quarter.
 
White scored twice to start the second half for UNE. Micaela Jacobs connected with her sister Emily Jacobs for a goal at the 4:48 mark of the third to put the Nor'easters in front 17-5. Paige DeVries put in the final UNE goal off a pass from Balotin in the opening minute of the fourth quarter.
 
The Nor'easters dominated possession and outshot the Colonels 34-15 overall and 28-8 on net.
 
Defensively, Maria Turriza made six saves over the first three quarters. Kira Connors was untested in goal for UNE in the fourth. Zoe Ratcliffe had 10 saves in the loss for Curry.
 
The Nor'easters continue CCC play at home on Saturday against Western New England at 4 p.m.
