MIDDLETOWN, Conn. --
Sarah LaVita picked up the victory from a field of 27 in the javelin as the University of New England women's track & field team competed outdoors for the first time in 2023 at Wesleyan University's Swanson Spring Classic on Sunday (Mar. 26) at the Andersen Track.
LaVita's top throw was 36.21 meters, which bested the next mark by over four meters, and qualified for the New England Championships in the process.
Sienna Matregrano also recorded a personal-best 28.81 in the javelin event.
Nina Parziale placed 4th out of 38 runners in the 1500m race with a time of 4:59.58, and
Jessie Martin took 4th in the 800m (2:35.35).
Anna Evans claimed 4th in the high jump, reaching a height of 1.48m, and
Cheyenne Cahill wound up 4th out of 28 in the shot put with a distance of 10.97m.
Additionally, the Nor'easters had four individual performances place 6th in events --
Sydni Lehr (long jump AND triple jump),
Izabella Haagenson (400m hurdles), and
Kassidy Plummer (discus).
UNE heads to the Snowflake Classic at Tufts University next Saturday.
