#12 UNE, Nichols play to 2-2 tie

HARRISVILLE, R.I. -- Garrett Devine scored with 7:23 remaining in regulation to tie the game, as the University of New England and Nichols College skated to a 2-2 tie in Commonwealth Coast Conference men's ice hockey action Friday (Dec. 1) at Levy Rink.

After a scoreless five-minute overtime period, the host Bison took the shootout to earn two points in the CCC standings.

The Nor'easters (5-2-2, 4-1-2 CCC) opened the scoring on the power play at 5:15 of the first period when Anthony Cinato took a feed from Devine and went top shelf with a wrist shot from the left circle. Jacob Pellerin had a secondary assist on the play.

Nichols (2-4-2, 2-3-2) drew even eight minutes later on a goal by Josh Dickson. Gabe Lee collected a rebound off his own shot and found Dickson from behind the cage.

After a scoreless middle period, the Bison grabbed a 2-1 lead at the 8:57 mark of the third when Dylan McMahon lifted a high shot from close range in the low slot.

With UNE on the power play, Devine knotted the score as his centering pass from the right boards caromed off a Bison player into the goal. Pellerin and Dominic Murphy assisted on the goal, which came at 12:37.

Billy Girard IV came up big in the overtime period to preserve the tie, making a pair of pad saves on quality Nichols scoring bids. He finished the evening with a total of 20 stops.

Nichols converted on each of its two shootout attempts, while Anthony Scuicco was the lone UNE player to tally in three rounds.

Tyler Bost had a strong game between the pipes for the Bison, racking up 40 saves.

The two teams are back in action tomorrow night, facing one another in a 7:00 p.m. start at the Harold Alfond Forum in Biddeford.
