Golden Bears blank Nor'easters, 3-0

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Western New England University scored twice in the second period to break a scoreless tie on its way to a 3-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference women's ice hockey win over the University of New England Saturday night (Nov. 4) at the Olympic Ice Center.

One night after suffering a 2-1 setback to UNE in Biddeford, the Golden Bears leveled their overall record and conference marks at 1-1. The Nor'easters slipped to 2-2 overall, 1-1 in CCC games.

WNEU opened the scoring early in the second period when Allison Walker converted a pass from Alyssa Murphy. The Golden Bears doubled their lead at the 14:18 mark on a power-play goal by Jenna Lynch. Maggie Holt and Maddie Pope assisted on the tally.

The hosts tacked on an insurance goal at 4:45 of the third on a power-play marker by Pope. Holt and Lynch assisted on the marker for their second points of the contest.

Rieley Jessie-Gerelli earned the shutout by making 33 saves. 

Delanie Corcoran had 30 stops for the Nor'easters, who return to action next Friday and Saturday with a home-and-home series versus Curry College. The opener is set for the Canton Ice House at 7:00 p.m.
