Nor'easters split with Colby-Sawyer, Simmons

BOSTON -- Another big day for Mic Hujus powered the University of New England women's swimming team in a commanding win over Colby-Sawyer College (194-60) and a narrow setback to Simmons University (139-115) in a double-dual meet at the Holmes Sports Center on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 11).

Hujus shared the best individual line of the day with Brandy Lewis of Colby-Sawyer, as each recorded three event victories. She topped the 200-freestyle (2:02.23) by more than nine seconds, took the 50-freestyle (25.01) by over one second, and claimed the 100-backstroke (1:06.71) by greater than two seconds. It was the second straight week that Hujus captured three races.

The Nor'easters racked up seven 2nd-place showings to support Hujus, including two apiece from Katie Durrua (100-butterfly, 50-butterfly), Meghan Cabral (50-breaststroke, 100-breaststroke), and Adria Horton (1,000-freestyle, 100-freestyle).

Camelia Hannah and Carli Quinlan each won twice for the Sharks. Hannah edged Liv Roux (31.33) by 0.46 in the 50-backstroke, and clipped Durrua (30.13) by 0.69 in the 50-butterfly.

Cabral swam with Lewis in the closest finish of the meet, clocking a 35.70 in the 50-breaststroke that was just 0.27 off the pace. Sophie Piette was also right there, touching the wall in 36.30 for third place.

UNE is now off until December 1 and the start of the Maine Invitational at Colby College.
