#2 Babson gets past UNE

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- No.2 Babson College received three goals from Jackie Hill in a 5-0 field hockey result against the University of New England on Tuesday evening (Oct. 24) at Blue Bolt Field.

Winners of 11 straight since their only setback of the season to top-ranked Middlebury College, the Beavers now stand at 17-1 overall. UNE sees its five-game unbeaten run end, shifting back to 8-9 on the year. The Nor'easters are now 1-6 versus nationally-ranked opponents in a loaded 2023 schedule, with that one win being the program's most notable ever -- an overtime triumph over No.7 Tufts University.

Hill got the ball rolling for Babson in the 4th minute off a feed from Jessica Evans. It took a while for the margin increase, though, as the hosts withstood a fair amount of pressure deep into the 2nd quarter. Shortly after UNE's lone penalty corner and shot attempt (off-target), Hill converted a pass from Sinead Walsh in the 29th minute.

Evans assisted Meara Hanyon 60 seconds into the 3rd for a 3-0 lead, and Hill registered the hat trick in the 44th minute. With just over one minute remaining in the final frame, Camille Marsh found the back of the net with the help of Laney Reed.

Bayla Furmanek picked up the goalkeeping win for the Beavers, while Dawn DeWeese-Moss totaled 14 saves in a busy night defending the Nor'easter cage.

UNE closes out the regular season on Saturday at Endicott College in a game with large Commonwealth Coast Conference seeding implications. The Nor'easters currently top the league at 4-0, Roger Williams University is at 3-1, and the Gulls also sit at 3-1.
