BREWSTER, Mass. -- The University of New England men's golf squad posted rounds of 328 and 326 and placed 13th out of 20 programs at the 88th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship, which wrapped up Sunday (Oct. 15) at The Captains Course.

Husson University entered the day with an eight-shot lead over Bates College, which wound up in fourth position. The two lowest totals of the final round belonged to the University of Hartford and Endicott College, but neither were quite able to close the gap enough on the Eagles. Husson ended at 603 (298-305), ahead of Endicott at 608 (308-300), Hartford at 609 (313-296), and Bates at 612 (306-306).

The Nor'easters (654) were paced by Jake Mielcarz on Saturday's Port Course and by Trevor Flanagan on Sunday's Starboard Course. Both finished at 162 for the 36-hole event, tied for 50th place among the 102 competitors, with Mielcarz going 77-85 and Flanagan carding 83-79. Jack Sicurella was one stroke back with 163 (83-80), and Ben Donahue came in at 167 (85-82).

Ashton Lewis of Eastern Connecticut State University shared the overnight individual lead with Zach Ellsworth from the University of Southern Maine after one-under-par rounds of 71, and Lewis managed to hold onto that top spot for the victory at 145 (71-74), edging three other players by two shots.

UNE will now prepare for the 2023 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Men's Golf Championship that starts on Thursday in Massachusetts. Reformatted from previous years, the league's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Championship has become a fall-only 36-hole tournament, without a qualifying round and a cut.
