#20 Engineers top UNE, 3-0

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Paige Forester had the opening goal and an assist to lead No.20 Massachusetts Institute of Technology over the University of New England, 3-0, in field hockey action Saturday afternoon (Sep. 3) at Blue Bolt Field.

The Engineers move to 2-0 on the young season, while the contest was the first of the year for the Nor'easters, after Thursday's originally-scheduled opener was postponed.

The 1st quarter went scoreless, before Forester got on the board in the 21st minute to give her side a 1-0 lead at the midway break. With her back to the cage, she collected a pass from Bailey McIntyre and put a low, backhand flip through a crowd.

UNE's only three shots and two penalty corners came prior to the half, though, and Marissa Liu doubled the advantage in the 35th minute, finishing a bouncing ball at the right post off a pass through the middle from McIntyre. With just over four minutes left to play in the match, Erica Radler tapped in some insurance off a feed from Forester.

MIT, which ended on top of a 21-3 spread in total shots and 14-2 in corners, received a couple saves out of Anna Duncan.

The away team has won the last three in the series, after the Nor'easters knocked off a nationally-ranked MIT group last season with a Bailey Lynch tally. Back in 2019, Forester netted two in an Engineer win.

Lindsay Pych posted seven saves for UNE, which entertains No.7 Bowdoin College on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
