UNE shares 10th at Bowdoin Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The University of New England men's golf team put together a two-day score of 644 and wound up in a tie for 10th place out of 15 institutions at the Bowdoin College Invitational, which concluded Sunday (Sep. 25) on the par-72 (6627 yards) Brunswick Golf Club.

Endicott College, which trailed the host Polar Bears by two entering the final round, bettered its day one total by 11 to shoot 607 (309-298) and edge both Trinity College (310-299) and Amherst College (310-299) by two. Bowdoin took fourth at 616 (307-309), six clear of Tufts University.

The Nor'easters improved on their 325 from round one with a 319 to cap the 36 holes. UNE tied Thomas College, and was 12 back of Husson University in ninth.

Jack Sicurella recorded his personal low-to-par on Saturday with a plus-three 75, and finished at 155 in a tie for 17th in the field of 80 individuals. He ended seven behind the three medalists at 148 -- Tyler Baker (Endicott), Nicholas Li (Trinity), and Mauro Stanchieri (Suffolk University).

UNE's daily numbers received contributions from Jake Mielcarz (160) with 81 and 79, Tom Higgins (164) with 83 and 81, and Rob Prentiss (165) with 86 and 79.

The qualifying round that leads to the 2023 Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship in April will try again on Thursday in Rhode Island, one week after being postponed due to weather. The top four squads out of the eight institutions will advance.
