Tom Higgins led the way with a 77 as the University of New England placed 4th out of nine at the University of Maine-Farmington Men's Golf Invitational at the par-70 Waterville Country Club on Sunday (Sep. 18).
Playing the course for a second straight day, but in a separate event, the Nor'easters totaled 316 after contributions from Higgins,
Jake Mielcarz at 78,
Marcus Costa with 79, and
Rob Prentiss at 82.
Thomas College captured the team title with a score of 305, in front of Husson University (311), Saint Joseph's College (315), and UNE.
Four players -- Jack King (Husson), Trevor Flanagan (Saint Joseph's), Miles Kirby (Thomas), and Kent Johnson (Thomas) -- shared the low solo effort of the day at five-over-par 75.
The Nor'easters are next on the links Thursday for the qualifying round that leads to the 2023 Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship in April. The top four squads out of the eight institutions will advance.
