MILTON, Mass – The University of New England women's lacrosse team battled back from an early four-goal deficit to defeat Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Curry College, 14-12, in its regular season final on Wednesday evening.
With the victory, the Nor'easters (4-11, 3-5 CCC) secure the sixth seed in the upcoming CCC Women's Lacrosse Championship. UNE will visit third-seeded Western New England in the first round on Saturday (1 p.m.).

Sabrina Santaniello won the opening draw control for Curry (2-13, 1-7 CCC) and quickly found Maggie Murray for a goal just 19 seconds into the night, sparking a 4-0 run for the Colonels over the first 4:01 of play.
Nicole Corriveau scored on an extra-player advantage off an assist from
Abby McHallam to put the Nor'easters on the board with 4:51 left in the first. Corriveau found
Barrie Guertin for a score just under two minutes later as the Nor'easters trimmed the deficit in half (4-2) at the break.
After a goal to start the second quarter by Ellie Hardman, UNE responded with three straight markers to tie the game 5-5 with 9:04 left until the half.
Anna Stowell scored the first of her team-high five goals to start the run.
Morgan White added back-to-back goals to tie the game.
It remained a one goal margin on either side the remainder of the half. Stowell scored with 4:57 remaining to give UNE its first lead of the day. The Colonels answered with goals by Sharon Dohery and Natalie Keenan to pull back ahead 8-7 at the 2:51 mark.
Morgan Mast connected with
Kelsey Hartigan with one second left to tie the game at the half.
Curry pulled back in front by two goals early in the third quarter. The Nor'easters outscored the Colonels 4-1 the rest of the quarter to grab a 12-11 lead heading into the final period. Stowell scored three times and Mast added a goal during the quarter.
Paige DeVries and
Abby McHallam extended the UNE lead to 14-11 to start the fourth quarter. Santaniello scored late for the Colonels.
UNE outshot Curry 35-19 on the day, including 25-17 on goal. Stowell was a force on both sides of the ball, adding three ground balls, five draw controls, and four caused turnovers to her stat line.
Madison Bruzzese made five saves for UNE in the victory. Jess Ginaitt had 11 stops for the Colonels.
Western New England defeated UNE 16-8 in their matchup earlier this season.
