BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Topped by a 2nd-place performances from
Jasmine Syed and
Megan Fecteau, the University of New England women's track & field team finished eighth out of nine programs at Bowdoin College's Pine Tree Relays on Saturday (Apr. 23) at the Magee-Samuelson Track.
Colby College (156 points), the University of Southern Maine (131), and Bates College (97) led the mostly-Maine field, with the Nor'easters totaling 28 points.
Syed qualified for the New England Championship meet in May during her run in the 5000m. Her time of 18:26.87 was a mere 1.80 seconds behind event winner Meredith Griffin of Colby. Fecteau was the first from UNE to challenge for the 3000m steeplechase, clocking 13:15.
Izabella Haagenson gained 4th-place points for marker 4.82m in the long jump. She also took 7th in the 400m hurdles (1:13.85). A top-five also came from
Anna Evans, who shared the third-best measurement in the high jump (1.52m).
The 4x100 relay of
Rachel Pion,
Sydni Lehr,
Ashley Kelley, and
Erica Dimmick took 5th (51.85), while, individually, 6th place was achieved by Pion in the 100m (13.21),
Sienna Matregrano in the shot put (9.81m), and
Grace Shippee in the discus (30.88m). Just outside the scoring line with 7th-place efforts were Dimmick in the 800m (2:24.90),
Nina Parziale in the 1500m (4:58.51), and Lehr in the triple jump (10.03m) -- all among the many personal records checked off by UNE competitors.
The Nor'easters will now prepare for the 2022 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Track & Field Championship, which will be held next Saturday on the campus of Gordon College.
