SOMERVILLE, Mass. --
Jasmine Syed and
Erica Dimmick established new program bests for the University of New England women's track & field team, running at the Tufts University Snowflake Classic on Saturday (Apr. 2) at Dussault Track.
The Nor'easter runners and jumpers pulled together to place 12th out of the 21 institutions (19.25 points) at the meet. The field was topped by the host Jumbos (200), comfortably ahead of runner-up MIT (138.75) and third place Wesleyan University (87).
Syed knocked 25 seconds off UNE's previous standard in the 1500m, clocking 4:56.85 to take 5th-place points. Dimmick clipped Syed's top 800m from a year ago by just over a second, posting 2:27.10 to finish 8th. The duo also paired with
Rachel Pion and
Sydni Lehr for a 4:20.64 and 7th-place points in the 4x400 relay.
Pion was followed by
Izabella Haagenson,
Sophia King, and
Ashley Kelley in the 4x100 relay, and the group crossed the line 8th in the time of 53.78.
Kelsee Gladu recorded the top individual finish for the Nor'easters against the field, taking 4th in the 10000m (41:40.05), and
Nina Parziale added to the squad value by registering 7th in the 5000m (18:49.45).
Anna Evans reached 1.42m in the high jump, placing 8th.
UNE's throwers participated 30 minutes away at the Wellesley College Invitational. The Nor'easters had competitors in the discus event for the first time ever, and
Kassidy Plummer led the roster with a distance of 30.03 meters.
Next week's action will be at the Gordon College Invitational.
