Wheaton stops UNE, 16-5

BIDDEFORD, Maine
– Wheaton College defeated the University of New England, 16-5, in non-conference women's lacrosse action at UNE Blue Bolt Field on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Lyons took control early and scored the first seven goals of the game. Avonlea LeBeau scored three of her five goals in the first quarter. Anna Stowell stopped the run with 2:17 left in the first as the Nor'easters trailed 2-1 after a period.
 
UNE (0-4) built a small comeback to pull within five at the half after goals by Morgan White and Abby McHallam in the second quarter.
 
Wheaton scored the first three goals of the second half, two by Jessie Kilburn to extend its lead to 11-3. McHallam added her second of the game with 6:38 to play in the third quarter. The Lyons continued to roll in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Nor'easters 5-1 in the period. LeBeau scored her final two goals, while Kilburn also added her fifth of the game.
 
Madison Bruzzese made 23 saves for UNE in the loss. Ella DiTomaso led all players with three caused turnovers.
 
Kilburn had eight points (5g, 3a) and LeBeau had six (5g, 1a) to lead the way for the Lyons who improve to 2-1 on the young season.
 
The Nor'easters will play their first road contest of the year on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against #20 Bowdoin.
