Nor’easters roll through Lasers, 22-10, for first win

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Three different players scored four goals for the University of New England women's lacrosse team as it picked up its first win of the season, 22-10, over Lasell University at UNE Blue Bolt Field on Tuesday.
 
Morgan White, Ann Chapman, and Nicole Corriveau each had four goals for the Nor'easters (1-6). White and Chapman also added two assists while Corriveau had one of her own. Paige DeVries recorded her first three goals of the season. Kimmy Staniar also had two goals for UNE.
 
UNE took control early and never let up as it built a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. The Lasers began to claw back into the game, getting as close as five at 10-5 with 4:56 to go until the half after back-to-back goals by Teresa Kessner. The Nor'easters built the lead back up to 12-5 as DeVries [Watch] and Chapman [Watch] added goals, before Lasell got one back from Sydney Brady before the half.
 
In the third quarter UNE led by as many as nine. Jozie Bolduc and Skyler McComas tallied their first goals of the season. Following the Bolduc goal, White took the ensuing draw the distance for her third of the night [Watch] Corriveau had two goals in the quarter to help the Nor'easters to an 18-9 lead through three quarters.
 
White scored her fourth goal to start the final period and found Kelsey Hartigan for a marker to put the Nor'easters ahead 20-9. Sophia Gadsden got one back for the Lasers, her third of the game, before Staniar and Deschamps rounded out the scoring for UNE.
 
The Nor'easters outshot the Lasers by a 39-21 margin and 34-16 on goal. UNE held a 23-12 advantage in draw controls led by Barrie Guertin (6) and White (5). The 22 goals scored were tied for the third-most in a game in team history.
 
Madison Bruzzese stopped six shots in the victory. Devin Zambruno had 12 saves for Lasell.
 
UNE returns to the field for its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener at Western New England on Saturday at 1 p.m.
