Plymouth State bests UNE, 13-7

BIDDEFORD, Maine –  Plymouth State University earned a 13-7 victory over the University of New England in non-conference women's lacrosse action at UNE Blue Bolt Field on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The game was even early on as the teams traded goals over the opening 5:49 of play. Devon Mello started the scoring for Plymouth State (2-0) before Nicole Corriveau answered for UNE a minute later. The Panthers grabbed a 2-1 lead at the 11:03 mark of the period, but Kelsey Hartigan put in her first of two on the day to tie the score once again. [Watch]
 
Plymouth State scored the next four goals, including three by Julia Donovan, to pull ahead 6-2. Abby McHallam put in a free-position goal with 1:44 remaining in the first quarter to trim the deficit to 6-3.
 
Maddie Hunt had two of the Panther's four goals in the second quarter as the visitors built their largest lead of the game at 10-3 at halftime.
 
UNE (0-2) mounted a small comeback in the third quarter as goals by Ann Chapman [Watch], Barrie Guertin, and Hartigan made it 10-6 through three. Donovan scored her fourth of the day as Plymouth State outscored the Nor'easters 3-1 in the final quarter.
 
Shots favored the Panthers 30-15 overall and 23-11 on goal in the game. Madison Bruzzese made 10 stops in the loss for the Nor'easters. Piper Sherber had four saves for Plymouth State.
 
UNE is back in action at home on Friday against Bridgewater State at 5 p.m.
