#11 UNE glides by Curry, 3-1

BIDDEFORD, Maine – After trailing early, the #11 University of New England men's ice hockey team battled back for a 3-1 victory over Curry College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Tuesday night.
 
UNE improves to 13-3-1 overall and is now tied atop the conference standings at 12-3-1 with Salve Regina. Curry drops to 12-6-2 overall and 10-5-1 in CCC play.
 
Early in the second period, George Vonakis took a hard slapshot that caromed off the back boards and right in front of the net. Eetu Selanne was able to redirect it in to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead. UNE would answer right back as Jared Christy was left free in the slot following a faceoff and finished with a blast to the top right corner to tie the score [Watch]. Daniel Winslow and Jake Fuss assisted on the tying goal.
 
Christy returned the favor 30 seconds into the third period as he found Fuss near the goal with a pass from the far boards. The conference points leader added another to his tally as he finished high to give UNE a 2-1 lead [Watch].
 
Austin Morgan fed a backhanded pass to Chris Jones in the left circle and he was able to beat Curry goaltender Reid Cooper to his stick side to extend the Nor'easter lead to 3-1 with 14:39 left to play. [Watch]
 
Curry pulled Cooper out of the net for the final 3:17 of regulation, but the UNE defense was able to keep the visitors off the board. Billy Girard IV backstopped the victory with 20 saves. Cooper had 23 stops in the loss.
 
The Nor'easters are home again on Friday night against Suffolk for the 6th Annual Teddy Bear Toss. Puck drops at the Harold Alfond Forum at 7 p.m.
