WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –
Ryan Kuzmich provided two goals as #10 University of New England men's ice hockey team turned back Western New England, 6-2, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Olympia Ice Center on Saturday evening.
Kuzmich, who recorded his third multi-goal game of the season, got the night started for the Nor'easters with a tally at the 14:59 mark of the first.
Austin Morgan and
Jake Fuss assisted on the goal.
Logan DiScanio scored to double the UNE (12-3-1, 11-3-1 CCC) advantage 3:52 into the second period with help from
Aaron Aragon and
Chad Merrell. The Golden Bears (4-14-2, 2-13-1) struck back 15 seconds later with a goal by Demitios Stefanou. Fuss put the Nor'easter back in front by two with a score at the 11:37 mark of the period.
Chris Jones and Morgan provided assists. Nolan Zweep added a power play goal later in the frame to cut the deficit to 3-2 for WNE after 40 minutes.
UNE pulled away with three goals in the third beginning with a blast from
Tyler Seltenreich 1:20 into the period. Merrell made it a 5-2 lead for the Nor'easters with just over five minutes left to play with help from DiScanio and
Anthony Sciucco. Kuzmich added an unassisted marker for UNE with 2:48 to play.
James Corcoran made 23 saves for the Nor'easters to earn his second victory in net this season. Colten Lancaster had 35 stops for the Golden Bears.
UNE returns to the ice on Tuesday night at home against #14 Curry at 7 p.m.
