BURRILLVILLE, R.I. – The #11 University of New England men's ice hockey team extended its win streak to eight games with a 2-1 victory over Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Nichols College to close out the regular season on Saturday night at Levy Rink.
The Nor'easters (18-3-1, 17-3-1 CCC) are the top seed in the conference championship and will host #8 seed Western New England next Saturday (Feb. 26) at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinal round. Nichols (7-15-1, 6-15-0 CCC) is the sixth-seed and will visit Salve Regina on the opening day of action.

Jared Christy scored the first goal for UNE -- which did all its damage in the first period -- 9:02 into the game.
Jake Fuss and
Alexander Vukota provided assists on the score. With 3:29 to play in the frame,
Austin Morgan extended the lead to 2-0 on power-play goal with help from
Daniel Winslow and Christy.
Both sides were scoreless in the second period, and then Conor Leonard put the Bison on board with 10:09 remaining in regulation. Nathan Carl and Kaiden Scott added helpers on the goal. UNE had two late power play chances, but was unable to extend its lead.
Billy Girard IV and the Nor'easter defense kept Nichols off the board down the stretch.
Girard made 30 stops to earn improve to a conference-best 16-3-1 in goal. Korbinian Lutz had 29 saves in the loss.
