#11 Nor’easters edge Colonels, 3-2

CANTON, Mass. – #11 University of New England extended its win streak to five games, and seven of the last eight, with a 3-2 victory over Curry College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey action at the Canton Ice House on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Colonels (13-7-2, 11-6-1 CCC) grabbed an early lead as Timmy Kent and Mike Pellegrini found Mark Zhukov for a score 2:40 into the game. Ryan Kuzmich tied the game with his team-leading 11th goal of the season, an unassisted tally, at the 9:08 mark of the first. Daniel Winslow kept pace with Kuzmich among the Nor'easters' leading scorers with a power play score with 8:00 remaining in the period to give UNE a 2-1 lead at intermission. Austin Morgan and Liam Darcy assisted on the go-ahead goal.
 
Jimmy Elser made it 3-1 in favor of UNE in the opening minute of the second with his third goal of the weekend. Tyler Seltenreich inched closer to the 100-point milestone with an assist while Logan DiScanio also provided a helper on the goal.
 
That spread held all the way until 1:13 left in the game when the conference's leading goal scorer, Timmy Kent, put in his 14th of the year as Curry cut the deficit to 3-2 with an extra skater. Billy Girard IV was able to keep the Colonels off the board the rest of the way for the Nor'easter victory.
 
Girard made 27 saves for UNE, which improves to 15-3-1 overall and 14-3-1 in CCC action. Reid Cooper had 24 stops for the Colonels.
 
The Nor'easters return to the ice at home against Endicott on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
