BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Shelly Tremblay deposited the only shot of overtime after 80 seconds of bonus action to give No.1 University of New England a 3-2 victory over second seed Endicott College in the 2022 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Field Hockey Championship title game on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 5) at Blue Bolt Field.

The Nor'easters (11-9) claim their sixth league crown with the decision, and the first since 2017, which marked four in-a-row at the time. UNE clinches the CCC's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship; the national field will be revealed in an NCAA.com selection show late Sunday night (10:30 p.m.), with first round games taking place on Wednesday.

The Gulls (15-5) now have to wait to see if their season can continue with a possible at-large selection.

After a scoreless 4th quarter, keeping things deadlocked at 2-2, Tremblay started the deciding play near the midfield line. Running onto a loose ball and moving to her left around a defender, she gained a half step at the 25 yard line and maintained possession while advancing deep into the circle towards the left post. Endicott goalie Brianna Anslow got a piece of Tremblay's backhand flip to the far side, but not enough to slow the topspin momentum as the ball bounced across the line and sparked a frenzied celebration. It was the 25th contest in 37 all-time meetings between the programs that was settled by one goal (13 in OT). Five of the eight championship showdowns (4-4) have continued beyond regulation.

UNE got on the board first in the 9th minute when Bailey Lynch passed down to Sarah Padellaro, whose one-timer went around a defender inside the right post. [Watch]

That lead held until the 25th minute, when Lindsay Bruns redirected a teammate's shot towards Lily Farnham at the left post for the finish. Early in the 3rd frame, Bruns made it 2-1 in favor of the Gulls, receiving a long pass into the circle from Meghan Lehouiller and turning to slip her 10th goal of the season through some traffic in front.

The Nor'easters bounced back in the 44th minute, though, as Kate Lindmark pounced on a rebound off a shot by Tremblay and banked her eighth goal off a defender's stick and under the goalie. [Watch]

Both Anslow and UNE netminder Lindsay Pych recorded a couple saves in the match, as shots-on-goal were at a premium (UNE 5-4). Penalty corners ended up even at 5-all.

Similarly to CCC titles, the Nor'easters haven't been in the NCAA field since 2017. That group captured the program's fourth win in the opening round out of five tries.
