BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Lily Martin collected a meet-high three individual events as Simmons University narrowly defeated the University of New England women's swimming team, 135-125, on Saturday afternoon (No. 12) at the Campus Center Pool.

The Sharks accounted for 10 wins on the day, over the four of UNE, but the Nor'easter depth kept things close to the end.

Martin's first-place results came in the 100-butterfly, 100-freestyle, and 50-butterfly. All three were close calls, as the 100 fly (1:05.43) was barely ahead of UNE's Olivia Roy (+0.82), the 100 free (59.56) was just in front of Elli Donovan (+0.36), and the 50 fly (29.61) clipped Katie Durrua (+0.65).

The Nor'easters received two victories from Annika Doeppers in the 100-breaststroke (1:14.41) and 100-individual medley (1:09.54). The slimmest margin of the meet was in the 100 IM, with Doeppers touching a mere 0.07 seconds before Caroline Mazariegos of Simmons. The Sharks' Katelyn Quinlan (-0.21) and Roy (-0.22) were also right in the mix.

Ari Cioffi captured the other solo swim for the hosts, clocking 34.38 in the 50-breaststroke. UNE took the closing 200-freestyle relay (1:48.42), behind the efforts of April Falstad, Cioffi, Roy, and Donovan, but the overall deficit was too large to overcome.

Eva Piernas and Carli Quinlan each took a pair of events to support the cause for Simmons.

The Nor'easters will be headed for Maine Maritime Academy next Saturday.
