BRUNSWICK, Maine --
Nina Parziale crossed the line in 26th position and the University of New England wound up 11th from 35 institutions in the 2022 NCAA Division III East Women's Cross Country Championship on Saturday (Nov. 12) at Bowdoin College.
No.7 MIT had three in the top 10 and scored 36 to claim the region's one automatic berth into the national championship race next weekend in Michigan. Other nationally-ranked programs from Bates College (64) and Tufts University (145), along with Brandeis University (142) and the host Polar Bears (172) rounded out the first five squads. The Nor'easters totaled 391 on the day.
Jillian Richardson of Bates topped the race of 243 competitors with a 6K time of 21:41, which was 44 seconds clear of the next fastest runner. Fourteen individuals came in under the 23:00 mark.
Parziale's 23:17 put her comfortably inside the top 35, who all earn U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region accolades for their efforts. It marks the second time a Nor'easter female has achieved such status, following only newly-minted UNE Hall of Famer Tiana (Thomas) Vallie '17 from back during the 2014 season.
On Sunday when the finals field is announced, Parziale could find her way into one of seven solo bids from the region, depending on how the national team selections shake out.
The rest of the Nor'easter score was compiled by
Kelsee Gladu (55th; 24:07),
Haley Slattery (85th; 24:59),
Megan Fecteau (106th; 25:42), and
Jessie Martin (120th; 26:02).
Abbey O'Hern was just over one second back of Martin, in support.
