NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Eight different players scored for the University of New England women's rugby team in a 67-5 victory over Norwich University in a National Intercollegiate Rugby Association matchup on Saturday.
UNE dominated play for the duration of the match utilizing a supportive and dynamic style of play. The Nor'easters jumped out to a 12-0 lead to start as
Sam Malley scored the first two tries of her career.
Salma Bezzat made a conversion kick on the second. The Cadets answered with a try of their own but their conversion failed.
Johanna Robinson,
Delaney Hansen, and
Mackenzie Burke also added scores at UNE took a 29-5 lead into the half.
UNE continued with a solid defensive effort and successfully contained the Cadets while creating crucial turnovers in the second half. Bezzat began the half 3-for-3 on conversion kicks after tries by
Olivia Mitchell, Robinson, and
Rae Pesek, the first of her career, as the Nor'easters expanded their advantage to 50-5.
Elizabeth Goodrich,
Brianna Dargin, and Bezzat also scored tries down the stretch.
