Nor'easters wrap fall at New England Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. -- The University of New England men's golf team finished 20th with a 36-hole score of 660 at the 87th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship, which ended Sunday (Oct. 16) at The Captains Course.

Babson College topped the 23-squad field with a total of 579 (286-293), by nine strokes over the next closest group, Middlebury College (297-291). The Beavers, ranked No.15 in the latest national coaches poll, have captured the last four titles in the event.

Middlebury's Sean McGarrity turned in an even-par 72 during Saturday's round on the Starboard Course, and then a three-under 69 on the Port Course, to claim the individual competition (141) by one ahead of overnight leader Ashton Lewis of Eastern Connecticut State University (69-72).

The Nor'easters shot 326 in round one and 334 in round two, with Tom Higgins leading the way both days. Higgins (160) posted 79 and 81 for a share of 63rd-place in the 115-player field.

UNE received scores of 81 and 83 from Jack Sicurella (164), totals of 81 and 84 out of Jake Mielcarz (165), and rounds of 85 and 86 from Rob Prentiss (171).
